With much excitement and anticipation, three Penang Chapter volunteers welcomed 5 NH22 CSPs (in full please) and sent them to their respective CPOs (also in full) which were the Children Protection Society, Penang Buddhist Association, Cheshire Home and St Nicholas Home for the Blind.
The five participants attended a welcome ‘banana leaf ‘lunch a few days later and were introduced to Penang Chapter volunteers and Liaison Persons who were Tan Jon Wen and Hee En Qi (YES returnees), LeeJia Mi (Belgium returnee) and Brenda Hor (Italy returnee).
As it was the Mid-Autumn festival, the CSPs were given mooncakes to taste and a brief explanation of the festival. Debriefing was done by Chapter President, Datin Teo on Chapter expectations and rules to observe. They were taken for shopping and sight-seeing after lunch.
Penang Chapter Committee members stayed on for a Chapter meeting to discuss upcoming activities for the hosted participants, including BM classes and Diwali celebration.
The participants were kept engaged on weekends when their LPs took them hiking on Penang Hill’s Heritage Trail. Bahasa Malaysia classes were also conducted by Jia Mi and a total of 20 lessons will be conducted.
When two CPOs held their own event celebrations, the participants were part of the organising committee. Cheshire Home’s ‘ Foster Parents Day’ was graced by the Governor of Penang, Tan Sri Ahmad Fauzi Abdul Razak while St Nick held a Charity Food Carnival. Penang Chapter sponsored RM 100 worth of coupons for the attending CSPs.
