The new Board held its first meeting in January to map out its priorities and strategies to meet the challenges brought on by the Covid19 global pandemic.
Returning as Board Chair for the new term is Khalilah Dato’ Mohd Talha with existing members, Datuk Yasmin Yusuf, Elangeshwaran a/l Muthusamy, Thiruchelvam a/l Subramaniam, Azreen Afzan Md Nasir and Sylvia Chan in the line-up. Joining the Board for the first time is Jolyn Tan, a YP2010/2011 returnee to Japan under the Kimimasa Tarumizu scholarship program. She is now working as a Human Resources Manager with OCBC Bank.
Instead of individual roles for the Board as per past practice, Board members now sit in committees for better synergy, communication and teamwork. Each committee may also form sub-committees and enroll volunteers and advisers from the AFS network, both locally and internationally.
The committees and their members are as follows:
* Programs – Azreen (Head), Sylvia, Jolyn, Kelly
* People Development – Elangesh (Head), Thiru, Sylvia, Jolyn
* Finance, Admin & Legal Affairs – Jolyn (Head), Thiru, Elangesh
* External Relations – Yasmin (Head), Kelly, Azreen
The focus for the new Board will be on securing more collaborations and sponsorships for online courses, especially for the award-winning Global Competence Certificate, streamlining and improving processes, sustaining and growing the volunteer base, securing HRDF and tax-free status for AFS Malaysia.
