A YES’17 returnee, Jun Hao, joined a Showing Miracle In Loving Everyone (S.M.I.L.E.) 2.0 Program recently and came away from the experience much humbled and enriched.
S.M.I.L.E. is a donation drive conducted by Persatuan Kaunseling UM (PERKUM) and NGO Persatuan Sukarelawan Impian Bersama (Dreams Team) to raise funds for post-flood and Covid-19 victims from January to February 2021.
The team managed to collect RM6,000 and donated in cash and kind to 57 families in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, KL and Selangor affected by floods and the Covid-19 virus.
Jun attributed her affinity for volunteerism to her participation in the YES program. “My understanding about volunteering before YES was quite shallow since the only way I knew how to contribute to those in need was through giving money. But after going through the YES Program, I realized that I could do so much more than just giving away money, especially as I do not have a lot to offer in the first place!
“Since then, I try to seek opportunities to involve myself in charity or volunteering projects in the community around me. Fortunately, as a member of PERKUM, I was given the opportunity to be a part of this project and help raise funds from the general public. This was a valuable experience for me and I look forward to doing more in future,” she vowed.
